CB FACT SHEETCrash Barrels are manufactured from High Density Polyethylene plastic. The barrels are filled with sand and positioned in an array layout to provide a vehicle crash cushion to protect the driver from hitting an unmoveable structure such as a barricade, bridge support or during roadwork construction. PRODUCTThe barrels are covered with a plastic lid and have a lifting flange to attach a lifting ring to move the barrels. Three sizes are available
The multi barrel is assembled on site by locking two different sizes of half-barrels together and filling to one of the three different fill heights. CONSTRUCTIONThe barrels are roto-moulded and have minimal variation in weight, dimensions, physical properties and colour. MATERIALSBarrels are manufactured from high-density polyethylene plastics, with UV stabilization, hindered-amine light stabilizer. Barrels are manufactured with three layer structure, the centre layer is formed using a chemical blowing agent, and the outer and inner layers are coloured yellow using dry blend yellow colorant. | Â | SURFACE CONDITIONSInspect the area where the crash barrels are to be placed. The area must be concrete or asphalt, with a grade of no more than 3 degrees. There are different array layouts from 50kph to 110kph. All barrel arrays are tested to NCHRP 350. Contact VMSI for test results. ARRAY LAYOUT
